About

My early-pandemic project was a handbuilt CNC machine, the MPCNC, designed by V1 Engineering. Then, my mid-pandemic project became trying to make a few interesting things with it while simultaneously not burning the house down. I’ve always had a thing for maps and have been fascinated by the raised-relief kind since my first, bumpy childhood globe. Coupling that fascination with the abundance of publicly available elevation data, I found a great creative outlet. Now, my late-pandemic (knock on wood!) project is to share the fun.

In case you’re wondering about the .xyz top-level domain on this site, it’s a nod to the way a CNC carves, in three (or more) dimensions.

Cheers,

Jeff

For the truly geeky, this site is being served from a Raspberry Pi in our home and my CNC is driven by another Pi running cnc.js. As useful as their namesakes are seedy.
